Working with TextPattern

November 15th, 2005 by Kaushal Sheth

Last 2-3 days I was busy understanding base of TextPattern and its templating structure. After working for almost 3 hours I think have understood basics of it. I did manage to port Red Marinee theme from Textpattern originally made famous as Green Marinee by Ian Main.

Demo can be seen at my site by clicking here

Will soon release it as theme ( after little bit of more testing ) . This is one theme I liked and didnt actually do much in it. Credit entiirely goes to original authors.

OSWD is back

November 12th, 2005 by Kaushal Sheth

Its been a month since OSWD was down. I really missed it. Finally they are back and am happy for them.

I love their new design. Clean and fresh look. The only sad thing is I dont see all features and all previous designs active. Hope they do it as as soon as possible.

OverUsed Word in Advt - Since

November 9th, 2005 by Kaushal Sheth

Have you ever wondered which is the most often used phrase to describe a company? . The phrase that could be used for any company whatsoever and would sound good on all occassions. Well I don’t know about you all but I believe Since has till now been the most widely used phrase to describe any company.

Tagline like Since 1857 , Since 1975 and many more have been used by many companies world wide. Yes the word brings forth the most important aspect in any branding Trust developed over the years . Only question that comes to my mind is how long will this phrase Since …. last. Any comments on that ?

Also at this moment I would like to add the phrase Your first…. . I see a great potential in this phrase. Though many companies like Scooty - Your First Love , Maruti Zen - Your first car have already utitlised it. But still it has lot of potential. Its upto companies to realise its worth and exploit it as much as possible.

Airtel- Using Product in Ad ?

November 6th, 2005 by Kaushal Sheth

I presume all have seen the recent Airtel ad. It is really cool. The killer aspect of this ad is the writer has made superb use of “Shayari” and blended it perfectly with the theme of the ad. Perhaps its the only ad I have come across in this recent months which has made use of “Shayari”. The Ad has proved it yet again to Indians the richness, ethnicity of our language. Really great job , I love the ad.

The only thing that is bothering me recently is the new trend of not using advertised product in the whole ad. ( Airtel hasn’t shown mobile in entire ad , nor does Hutch do). It may sound novel , new trend but don’t you all think at some point use of product is must ?.

I am not questioning the reach of these companies. If that’s the main argument point against this question I can just shun it of by saying then why do “Coke and Pepsi” feel the need to show bottle? . I belived they have wider reach than these companies. I just feel at some point products just need to be showed to get the extra edge, get new customers, make new clientele aware of what company deals in ?

Just another of my heart felt thought. Would love to have some comment in this and perhaps get enlightened more on this subject .
