Indian Tourism

November 21st, 2005 by Kaushal Sheth

What about Indian Tourism is your question to me ?

Well there are many things to talk about it. But I will restrict to just three main things which I feel are atmost important and lacks ( according to me ) in present scenario.

  1. Good Tagline
  2. Thinking Besides Kashmir , Agra & Goa
  3. Site Design & SEO Program

1. Good Tagline

Well I am Indian and am proud to be Indian. But it hurts to see that currently we lack good tagline to promote our Tourism. Tagline ? .

Well I am sure you all have heard of Uniquely Singapore ,Malaysia - Truly Asia , Discover Hong Kong . Yes I mean those. I just did routine search in Google and what I came up is that at present our Tagline is Incredible India . Surprised? . Yeah even I didn’t know. So will you say our present promotion campaign good?.

Coming back to point Incredible is good but doesn’t seem to be different. It’s just a usual word in dictionary. We really need a good word.

We have a good and rich heritage. Peace , Cultural Diversity , History ,Beautiful places and I can go on…. to describe our country . We really need a good tagline. What I came up for starters is India Calling ( lol very much inspired by new serial on Star One ) . Its really great word with lot of potential. How about India Calling - Where are you to add to it. We can really come up with something to promote India Tourism. Maybe authorities can come up with contest and find a good word. Also promotion is must. Existing promotion campaign is really not effective. Authorities need to note that point.

2. Thinking Besides Kashmir & Agra

Yes Kashmir used to be good , was great. We lost paradise in war.. But move on…. Kashmir is not the only place or heaven on Earth. So also Agra and Taj Mahal . I love Goa beaches but does that mean we dont have any other beaches in India. How about promoting far east places, Kerala , Kathmandu, Nainital and list is big. We ( authorities ) need to break traditional boundary of restricting Tourism to just Kashmir, Agra & Goa. Far east places in India are left to be exploited and can really provide just the kind of adventure, greenery with tourist will be looking at. It can provide an additional revenue to ministry besides from traditional places.

3. Site Design & SEO Program

Well being a web developer and web designer this is the first thing I should look at. I saw Malaysia’s tourism and site and was really impressed. Indian Tourism sites lacks this design. Incredible India site was good but still there was something missing. I felt it was like a mixture to meet corporate plus tourism site requirements. But while doing so improper mixture was made which makes it loose its recognition. Next I search Tourism in Google.com and believe me Indian site comes on 10th page in search results . They really need to do something. Malaysia, Honkong, Australia even Thailand are ahead of us. In SEO market our sites are really lacking and immediate action is required for the same.

Just my 2 paisa worth story. Open for criticism , comments .

    How about “Awakening India” ?

These are changing times. The west believes that India and China are changing. Worthy of a lot of thought.

    1. Kashmir is still beautiful and still retains the crown of ‘Paradise on Earth’.

    2. Tourism industry needs to first improve the scenario at the prime tourist locations, some of which u have named here, and then should think of exploiting the beauty of the other untouched lands. Looking at the current statistics, it wont be wrong to say that the tourism industry is failing to do its job properly. Tourists now prefer the far-east destinations.

    3. I was really surprised to know this, but its true.. tourists still think of India as a mystical place. I remember, when I had met a person from Paris, he told me that he had come to India to see the untouched beauty. He didnt want to visit places like Delhi, Mumbai, etc. mainly because they were so commercial, something that is much better in Europe. They wanted to experience the spiritual India. thats why sometimes I feel, places like darjeeling, Hrishikesh, should be kept as they are. They are getting their share of Tourists.

4.Kathmandu is a part of Nepal not India ;-)
