Airtel- Using Product in Ad ?
November 6th, 2005 by Kaushal Sheth
I presume all have seen the recent Airtel ad. It is really cool. The killer aspect of this ad is the writer has made superb use of “Shayari” and blended it perfectly with the theme of the ad. Perhaps its the only ad I have come across in this recent months which has made use of “Shayari”. The Ad has proved it yet again to Indians the richness, ethnicity of our language. Really great job , I love the ad.
The only thing that is bothering me recently is the new trend of not using advertised product in the whole ad. ( Airtel hasn’t shown mobile in entire ad , nor does Hutch do). It may sound novel , new trend but don’t you all think at some point use of product is must ?.
I am not questioning the reach of these companies. If that’s the main argument point against this question I can just shun it of by saying then why do “Coke and Pepsi” feel the need to show bottle? . I belived they have wider reach than these companies. I just feel at some point products just need to be showed to get the extra edge, get new customers, make new clientele aware of what company deals in ?
Just another of my heart felt thought. Would love to have some comment in this and perhaps get enlightened more on this subject .

I think they want the focus to be on “Airtel” as a brand. They are not promoting any particular scheme through this ad. They probably want the users of Airtel to feel proud about using this brand.

Airtel as a brand.. hmm .. they still got only one product to sell unlike Tata, RIL.

Its another way of attracting the new customers.
If the product is not shown, then the new customers will be more curious to know about the product.

Dear Kaushal
You are the unsuspecting victim of information, or the lack of it rather. Airtel is not a mobile phone company. Nor does it have a ‘product’ as you mentioned. It provides a service, in the telecommunications industry. There is a BIG difference. They have nothing to do with mobile phones. That is for the customers to have as a prerequisite. Reliance is different. They provide a service along with the product, GSM phones. That is why you might have noticed only their phones can be used for their connection. You can infer the rest on your own. I sincerely hope!
